Magnetic resonance tomography (MRI) examination sometimes can be fidgeting because of groundless myths. However, it is irreplaceable when visualisation of the main human internal organs is required for diagnostics of malignant and other diseases!
MRI is contraindicated in patients with an implanted metal prosthetic device. Myth! According to Eduardas Keleras a physician radiologist of Kaunas “Kardiolitos Hospital” already for many years the prostheses have been produced using titanium or other non-magnetic substances that are not affected by the MRI machine.
A human being is exposed to a certain dose of X-rays during the MRI examination. Myth! A specialist E. Keleras emphasizes that the procedure name itself prompts that this examination is based on a magnetic field and X-rays are not generated during the examination.
The most important thing is proper preparation and concentration. If the patient gets worse during the examination or claustrophobia develops, an emergency button is always available in his hand to call medical staff for assistance and to stop the examination.
