Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure done to reshape a woman's labia minora—the inner "lips" of the vulva. A lot of women experience physical and psychological discomfort of asymmetrical, enlarged labia. Women opt for surgery for a variety of reasons, including pain from twisting and tugging of the labia when exercising, riding a bike, wearing tight clothes or during intercourse. Although the surgery is mostly common among women whose labia changed after a childbirth, it is also performed to those women whose asymmetrical labia appeared due to inherent properties, diseases or changed over time.

Preparation for the surgery

If you smoke, you should stop smoking 1 month before the scheduled surgery date. The surgery must be timed to take place at the end of your menstrual cycle. This is because your vagina needs to be healed already before your next period begins.

How the surgery is performed?

During the surgery, the excessive amount of tissue of the labia is removed, using surgical incisions. The edge of the labia that have been improperly healed after a childbirth can be corrected. The surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia. Labiaplasty is performed using dissolvable sutures, and the small knots remaining on the surface are removed 10-14 days after surgery.
